As you know, we had to cancel the Saturday event altogether because we didn’t have enough people who sent money in. We had hoped for at least 50; we got 12.

Then the place we were supposed to go for the Friday happy hour, the Maplewood, threw a monkey wrench in, and that led us to move it to The Retreat. Well, for those who remember, The Retreat is and isn’t the best place to meet for a happy hour. Both reasons have to deal with traffic and bodies; way too many cars, no place to park, then way too many people. There had to be at least 300 people on the inside and outside of the place; it was a mob.

Then the next problem; there were other classes meeting there the same night. It seems that both the class of 1978, which was supposed to be at the Cobblestone, and the class of 1983, which was supposed to be celebrating its 25th, decided to show up. You know, in high school, it’s easy to look at someone and tell who’s in what class. As adults, it’s hard to tell, at times, who’s in the upper 40’s as opposed to their lower 40’s.

In the end, I recognized one person who was from the class of ‘78, and met someone who was from the class of ‘77, but didn’t know him because he was a House 1 guy, and I was in House 3. Hey, y’all know how many people we graduated with; almost 900 bodies. And, without a specific place to meet inside (not like it really would have helped), who could identify anyone else?

Well, at least I got to meet the news anchor of Channel 3, Matt Mulcahy, who was easily recognizable, and was looking for members of his class. This was embarrassing, folks,…

By now you all know that we’ve had to cancel the Saturday event because we didn’t hear from enough people. Well, because of odd circumstances, we’ve also had to move the Friday night happy hour from the Maplewood Inn to the Retreat at 302 Vine St. At the present time, we’ve only heard from 12 people who are saying they’re coming, but we’re hoping for more.

As a sidebar, we know that the class of 1978 is getting together at the Cobblestone about a block away for their happy hour; maybe we can toilet paper the place! Anyway, come one, come all!

Activities: Horseshoes, volleyball, walking, biking and so on.

Photography: An alumni of LHS, Kris Burkey, has attended many reunions and has offered to attend ours free of charge and take pictures. She will be taking approx 300 pics during the course of the event. She’ll place them on a CD which can be purchased for $20 (including shipping), 4×6 photos for $3 or 2 for $5 presented in a secure picture folder. OK the reunion is still on and it’s still going to be on Saturday, July 26 at the Barking Gull in Liverpool, NY.

Don Caiello, Kevin and Yvonne Dirk and I met tonight.

1. Happy hour on Friday, 7/25 at the Maplewood (the motel near Route 81 on 7th North Street where the troopers go during the State Fair-that’s how I know it)

2. Saturday, 7/26 the Barking Gull from 3 p.m. till ?

a. $25 per person for the picnic package which involves: hotdogs, hamburgers, Italian sausage, corn on the cob, salt potatoes, baked beans, chef salad, mac salad, fresh fruit, condiments and non-alcoholic drinks

3. Rooms reserved at Maplewood for $99.

We want to scale the costs down and many other classes have had success in using emails as their main avenue of communication. This is what we are going to do. Of course there will be those that do not have computers and we will use mailers for them.

If you know anybody and can spread the word – DO IT!! Please have them contact me. We want to have as many email addresses as possible so this is something all of you out there can help with.

Don, Kevin and I have split the spreadsheet I’ve created and will be calling those people we have phone numbers on but not emails. Hopefully by doing this we can at least find a few others. I am putting a notice on classmates.com and our LHS school alumni site. Between Don and Kevin they will be hitting the newspapers and I believe one of the tv stations that you can advertise for free.

The next meeting is Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 at the Euclid Hotel. If you can make it, please stop by. We keep the meetings short but have a lot of laughs!!!
